Everybody has had that friend back in high school that let you down. Big time. Well that old time feeling sprung up again at my 10 year old’s soccer practice when I reached for my phone to read a new email.
“We have a difficult announcement…” it read. Yep it was difficult alright. I remember thinking “Hey Parse is owned by Facebook it will be around for a long time.” Yep I was wrong alright.
For those that don’t know what Parse is/was, a Backend as a Service (BaaS) provider. They let you create databases fast, connect them to your apps with ease and analyze the data every which way to Sunday. All at a very affordable price if not for free!
I was a little upset about Parse going away especially having spent a lot of time learning the framework and having apps rely on it. But I realized something on the ride home from soccer practice. My son explained to me Coach Kevin taught the team a new move. He said “Dad, it was so hard I had never tried to make that move before… but it was so much fun! And once I learn it I’ll be a better soccer player.”
Well I guess I’m going to be a better developer cause I’m learning a new move. OK I’m learning several new moves just to be safe. I don’t need to feel that “let down” feeling anytime soon.
